Gottlieb Caveman (Project)
Gottlieb Caveman (Project)
Caveman is a pinball machine released in September 1982 by Gottlieb. Designed by John Buras, it is notable for being the first Pinball/Video Game hybrid.
The best of both worlds!
Caveman’s intriguing combination of video and pinball appeals to all gamers. Video fans can discover the challenging fun of pinball while pinball lovers can discover the electronic excitement of video.
The PINBALL Strategy
Every pinball feature can improve the status of the video maze. Spelling CAVE lights the extra ball object on the screen. Hitting lit yellow drop targets and rollovers will replace the evil Tyrannosaurus with bonus scoring pterodactyls. Hitting vari-targets determines how long the pterodactyls stay on the screen and hitting drop-targets in sequence advances the bonus multiplier. Locking the ball into either of two channels will start the video maze game.
The VIDEO Strategy
Hunt down all the dinosaurs except the killer Tyrannosaurus. If he gets you its too bad… The caveman disappears and your pinball drains, but if you kill five brontosaurus the screen changes to five triceratops and the game continues. Completing that screen will advance you further and change the screen colour. After you kill a dinosaur it will reconstruct into the Tyrannosaurus and begin chasing you, so throughout the video game you are both the hunter and the hunted.
The flexibility of alternating between pinball and video allows you to create your own scoring strategies and that flexibility makes Caveman an ingenious pinball/video combination. Two independent and exciting games that play off of each other to delight every player.
Please note : This is a project pinball. It is complete, and looks to have no battery damage on the CPU. However, it may need servicing and repair.
This machine was originally used in commercial environments such as arcades, public houses, and amusements.
When you place your order with us, we will take the machine out of storage and bring it into our workshop, where technicians will fully clean and test all the components to ensure they are in working order as well as making any repairs that may be necessary.
Because of the age of these machines and that fact that they were originally used in commercial environments, it is possible that there may be signs of cosmetic wear and tear. However, we feel that these slight imperfections only add to the patina of this classic machine and helps to tell a story of its past life.
Please understand that some items may take up to 28 days for a full refurbishment.
